Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
A psychiatric evaluation begins with a conversation about your history, your current struggles, and any symptoms that are getting in your way. It’s an opportunity for me to learn about your strengths and goals. We’ll discuss what emotional and mental wellbeing looks like for you. The intent is to assess your symptoms and how they show up in your life. From there, we’ll talk about possible diagnoses and evidence-based treatments, including medication management and supportive therapy. You’ll be able to ask questions along the way, and we’ll work together to find the best options for you.
Integrative Psychiatry
Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health care that combines traditional psychiatric treatments—like medication and therapy—with evidence-based complementary practices. It recognizes that mental well-being is deeply connected to physical health, lifestyle, and emotional balance. This approach may include nutrition, mindfulness, movement, somatic therapies, and other mind-body techniques alongside conventional treatments. The goal of integrative psychiatry is to treat the whole person, not just symptoms, by addressing the root causes of distress and creating a personalized, sustainable path to healing.
Medication Management
In psychiatry, medication management is the ongoing process of evaluating, prescribing, adjusting, and monitoring psychiatric medications to support mental health and well-being. It’s a collaborative approach where we work together to find the right medication, dosage, and treatment plan that aligns with your needs, goals, and lifestyle. Medication management includes regular check-ins to assess effectiveness, address any side effects, and make adjustments as needed. It’s not just about prescribing—it’s about making sure medication is working for you as part of a broader plan for healing and stability.
Gender Affirming Care
Identity- and orientation-affirming care means providing mental health support that fully respects and validates a person’s gender identity, sexual orientation, and lived experiences. It ensures that care is free from bias, judgment, or pressure to change. This approach recognizes how identity shapes mental health and creates a safe, supportive space to explore challenges and goals. It also acknowledges the impact of societal and systemic factors on well-being and works to provide care that aligns with each person’s values and sense of self.
Ketamine Therapy
Psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) is an emerging approach that combines the use of psychedelic substances with psychotherapy to support mental health and personal growth. Research suggests that psychedelics like psilocybin (found in magic mushrooms), MDMA, and ketamine may help with conditions such as depression, PTSD, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Psychedelic medicines appear to work by promoting neuroplasticity, enhancing emotional processing, and reducing rigid patterns of thinking that contribute to mental distress. Kellyn is currently studying for PAT certification through the Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Stay tuned!
